Class 331

The class 331 units are an EMU fleet built by CAF, based on their Civity platform, in their factory in Zaragoza, Spain.

They are used on Northern services.

The units have open gangways for improved passenger movement and security, high acceleration for improved journey times, air conditioning and WiFi throughout, they also have a seat reservation system with en-route update capability.

These trains are maintained by Northern at Allerton Depot with support from CAF under a Technical Support and Spares Supply Agreement.

The fleet is currently configured as:

  • 12 x 4 car units
  • 31 x 3 car units
